Scarborough House

Sober Housing for Women

Scarborough House for Women is a Cleveland-based non-profit,
three-quarter way residential recovery facility helping
chemically dependent women regain their lives and families.

The program is located in the Tremont neighborhood on the
Near West Side of Cleveland and has the capacity to house
8 women at one time. It provides transitional sober housing to
help women starting out in recovery from treatment.
Women can remain at Scarborough house for up to one year.

Scarborough leads women into recovery by way of counseling, support,
and a healthy environment where they live, grown and heal.
Women are required to attend self-help meetings, to participate in weekly
counseling and to adhere to the group living rules of the house.

A House Manager lives on the premises
and monitors the residents’ adherence to the program.
Urinalysis dip screen and breathalyzer testing is conducted randomly.

Scarborough House was certified by the
Ohio Recovery Housing and NARR in 2015.

The women in residence are responsible for their own food, they develop their vocational skills and work on becoming self-sufficient so they can get their own housing and move on independently.
A professional counselor offers support and ongoing clinical assistance weekly. The program also counts on many volunteers – e.g. for a weekly onsite AA meeting and other supports.

Referrals are received from alcohol and other drug treatment providers, detoxification units, criminal justice personnel and from other community service or residential providers. A contract with the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County offers needed rent subsidy for women who are not yet employed or financially able to pay the rent.
